McDonald Drive near Princeton Boulevard

There is generally a cop hiding out in the Holiday Inn parking lot behind some bushes. Sometimes there may be a cop standing there with a radar gun, pulling people over.

Peterson Road near W. Princeton Boulevard

Lawrence, KansasFeb 08, 20081 Comments

Just a bit past W. Princeton Blvd on Peterson Rd is a school zone. The zone only lasts about 1 block but the speed limit is cut down from 40mph to 20mph. There is a flashing school zone sign to let people know when it is in effect also. I drive this road daily and at least 3 out of 5 days there is a cop with his radar gun pulling people over. Sometimes he is standing and his car is somewhat hidden. Other times he is in his car. When going towards N Iowa you will be coming over a hill before reaching this area, so just be prepared to slow down if it’s around school start or end time.

Massachusetts Street near 19th Street

I can’t believe this isn’t here yet. I see them at least once a week if not more, morning and evening. The cop likes to park behind the church at Mass and 20th and get traffic going north. At times, there will be two, one on foot with the radar gun and one in a car. I’ve even seen the one on foot walk out in front of traffic to stop speeders.
They also like to park ont he side streets, 20th, 21st and 22nd in order to get both ways.

US Highway 40 near East of #10 North-South portion

Lawrence, KansasJun 16, 20062 Comments

I’m not sure about "state & US hwy." designations. I’m refering to the part of Hwy. #40 (6th St.) East of Hwy. #10. & West of Wakarusa Rd.. It’s a brand new "4-lane" with an ‘island’ in the middle throughout, with excellent visibility and No businesses on either side! The posted limit (new Non-construction signs) has been 40mph, Way below what’d still be safe. 3 yrs ago it was a much narrower 2-lane w. a posted speed limit of 55mph! Due to a lot of complaints (good!) and ‘too many speeding tickets’, the posted speed will (or has just been) be raised to 45mph (yet to be posted). This is a bit lower than what would still be safe for such a road.
