Saint Gabriel, Louisiana Speed Traps
State Highway 30 near North of LA 74
There is a heavy police presence on LA 30 due to the Iberville Parish police substation about a mile north of the LA 74 intersection, as well as the nearby St. Gabriel police station. This is a wide open stretch that passes by the LSU Agcenter farms and the Willow Glen power station. The local police are not the ones that cause concern here, but rather the State Police which have a tendency to use their pop radar in this stretch not far from the intersection with LA 74 and then they’ll execute a u-turn and nab you. It seems they prefer to do this just after the AM rush when the traffic has thinned considerably. This area is posted as 55, but the prevailing flow of traffic is almost always about 70+ in this area. The State Police will grab you if you are doing 65+ here.
River Road near State Highway 991
Coming down River Road from the Plaquemine Ferry towards where River Road HWY 991 hits HWY 327 (before the stop sign), there is a sheriff’s deputy that drives to the top of the levy and conceals himself in tall grass and fires radar in both directions. The only reason I haven’t gotten popped is because I have my radar detector….he hides himself very well!
