State Highway 70 near State Highway 44
This trap is usually set near the sunshine bride. It’s best just to go an average of 55-60mph in this area because the State Troopers and Parish Police are everywhere and there are many places to for them to hide. Often I see them sitting at the entrance/exit of the bridge, in the median. Most times, there is an officer stationed at the LA-44 exit, and another officer at the bottom of the bridge waiting to hand you your ticket. This has happened to me and it was not a pleasing way to start my morning!
US Highway 70 near Sunshine Bridge
For approximately 2 miles on either side of the sunshine bridge, you are in St. James Parish. Deputies sit on either side of the bridge radaring up the bridge in an attempt to catch anyone doing over 55MPH. Be warned: The speed limit is actually 45MPH but there is so much trafic that they will usually let up to 55MPH slide. I believe women are singled out and pulled over for going as much as 50MPH. Also, more often then speeding tickets, seat belt tickets are their claim to fame! They stare into your window as you pass and are quick to notice a driver not wearing a seat belt, a windshield missing a M.I.S. sticker
Hwy 3127
Speed limit is 55mph throughout. But, you are in the middle of nowhere and it is very easy to go 70. Long, straight roads are very tempting. State troopers will hide behind trees in corners, an in abandoned gas stations. Got pulled over when coming out of a curve, 70 in a 55. Trooper says that they have been citing lots of people, because this is the "money area" Be careful.
