Abell, Maryland Speed Traps
State Route 27
State Police set-up radar on this stretch of road throughout the day and night because a lot of cars do not slow down to 40mph and then 30mph after the 55mph speed limit from Westminster to Manchester (by the Sheetz)–the police sit off the road on the right side by the Skate Park and catch many motorists who are unaware of their location. Be careful in this area!
Joppa Road
Law enforcement sits on Spring Rd and monitors traffic on Joppa Rd for speed.
Smallwood Drive
After living along this roadway and working in the traffic safety field for almost 30 years, this MOST DEFINITELY IS a speed trap. The speed limit is lowered from 40 MPH to 25 MPH during the entire day while school is in session. It should only be lowered during school admission and dismissal times when the students are in, or immediately adjacent to the roadway and at no other times. As a matter of fact, when it was first installed, there were no warning signs advising the motorist of the speed reduction until I and many other drivers called the County to complain about it being a speed trap.
All Faith Church Road
Be especially careful when descending the hill on this road; officers often check motorists for speed here, and it’s easy to accelerate naturally traveling downhill.
Great Mills Road
Be sure to watch your speed along this road; law enforcement often watches this area for speeding.
