Cumberland, Maryland Speed Traps
Interstate 68 near State Route 144 Bypass
As you are entering the city limits of cumberland the speed limit drops form 65 to 55. The police wait at the overpass and give you a ticket
I-68
It’s hard to go the speed limit in Cumberland. Entering the town, (it doesn’t matter if you’re headed eastbound or westbound) you’ll be going downhill and will have a nice 65 mph speed limit. However, within a few miles it’ll reduce all the way down to 40! This might be the worst designed stretch of interstate ever. It’s jammed in between the buildings in crowded Cumberland, and has lots of slow curves and exits that sneak up on you. Go the speed limit so you don’t get a ticket (there are plenty of cops), but don’t get rear ended.
I-68 Westbound at Hillcrest Drive exit/bridge
Cumberland City police will work interdiction from on the bridge, having one car shoot laser at oncoming traffic, and have another cruiser intercept the target vehicle. Will often work laser on westbound traffic, late at night one mile past this site, sitting in the median.
58 mi. marker W/B I-68 at bottom of hill
MD State Police Cruiser parked at bottom of steep hill with front of cruiser facing westbound traffic. Usually has VASCAR. Most common daytime hours 7 days per week.
