Ellicott City, Maryland Speed Traps
State Highway 100 near Exit Number 2
Seen police during both am & pm rush. Will sit on the eastbound side under the overpass right after the Rte 104/108 exit (#2). If you get on Rte 100 EAST from Rte29 or Long Gate Pkwy, slowing down prior to reaching the top of the hill after the Executive Park Drive exit (#1B) will help.
State Highway 100 near State Highway 103
After 9:00am at the intersection of 100(W) and the exit for Rt 103 under the bridge there are usually 3 or so police cars waiting. The same applies at around 4:00pm in the same direction.
State Highway 40 near Mariottsville Road
I was driving down route 40 to interstate 70 around 11 pm, was tagged for going 69 in a 55. The officer was on the right shoulder with the lights on, with the trunk lid up, looking a stranded motorist. I slowed down, but it was too late. Officers will pull out and signal you to pull over with their lights, they are generally polite and efficient.
State Route RT 100 East near Exit Number Exit 4 overpass
State and County police frequently (daily?) sit under the Exit 4 overpass on the eastbound side. I’ve never seen them on the westbound side. Lidar not detected by Cobra 11-band radar/laser detector. I see them there virtually every day, and they always snare a bumber crop of motorists. Police will often open the trunk lid to hide the light bar on top of their cruisers so they look like stranded motorists. They always work in teams with one cop shooting the laser, and another darting out on foot to make sure you see him point you out to pull you over. If that does not work, the second or a third cop will chase you down in the cruiser. They sometimes use unmarked cruisers as well. Slow down by the time you get to exit 3, or the laser will get you before you see them.
