Mount Airy, Maryland Speed Traps
State Highway 144 near Park Ridge Drive
As you are heading down a large hill travelling West on Route 144 leaving Mount Airy, Maryland State Police frequently setup a speed trap. The speed limit is 30 mph and they tend to pull off into a brush area so their car cannot be seen. Watch your speed going down the hill, basically you have to ride the brake the whole way.
Interstate 70 near Exit Number 68
Police set up at the end of a hedge at the bottom of a long hill just east of the exit. MD State Police cars are painted in a scheme that seems to blend in to any background. The exit itself is at the crest of the hill and they seem to count on your concentration being on the usual extra activity at an exit to not see them perhaps half a mile ahead. That, plus the usual tendency to gain speed going downhill makes this a prime hunting spot. Having worked years of shift work I’ve seen them there at all times of the day and night. Be near the speed limit as you crest the hill and look ahead in the median where the highway starts to curve.

Going East on 144 you will see usually 2 cop cars on the right side of the road in a dirt shoulder near mouth of Park Ridge Drive. Speed limit is 30 but they’ll get you for 35 easy. Down hill must ride brakes.
Interstate 70 near Exit Number 68
Right after exit 68 (I-70) going eastbound, one or two squad cars (state boys) with trunks up. After the straightaway, it’s a gradual uphill and to the right turn. They blend in fairly well with the shrubs in the median and can be hard to spot, if you’re not aware they sit there. I’ve seen them there on many ocassions.

Mostly laser shot up the hill, MSP sit in the median after the truck weigh station.
