Cambridge, Massachusetts Speed Traps
State Highway 2-A near Chauncy Street
I live on Chauncy street and be warned, this speed trap is there every other day. It’s usually a police cruiser and in the summer, sometimes a motorcycle officer. They’ll stop you for anything over 30. I’ve seen so many people being stopped here I’ve stopped counting!
Eastbound Concord Ave Across from Burger King near Belmont Border
Speed limit is 30 Unposted but 20 after 2. Cambridge Cops will pull you over for going anything 10 or over. One guy I knew got pulled over for going 39 MPH. There are 3 cops on motorcycles sharing a radar gun on the side of the road, and will wave you over. If you’re nice they will give you a written warning.
Western Ave. btw Central Sq. and Mem. Drive
At the end of the month (quotas, I assume), you’ll often see two cops, one in a cruiser, one who steps out to flag people down. They’ll be 50-100yds past the police station. Remember, even though the street has only two lights in a 3/4 mile stretch, and is four lanes wide, it’s a 25MPH zone!
Longfellow Bridge coming from Boston across Charles river
Trap is at end of parked cars on Cambridge side of bridge – posted limit is 35MPH.
Main Street, right after the Longfellow bridge
Cruisers and motorcycles, parked along street parked cars; speed limit is 30/35 on the bridge and the road has a downward slope after crossing the bridge, so the cops walk up on to the road and signal people to pull over. Parking limits are also strictly enforced alongside 1 and 101 Main street buildings.
