Avon-by-the-Sea police park their cars in the rear of the parking lot of Schneider’s Restaurant on Main St. where they are not visible until you pass the restaurant. Radar always on and you needn’t be doing more than 5 mph to get pulled over. Town is 0.4 square mile shore town with an annual police budget of over $1 million. No one gets away with a warning.

Travelling northbound from Belmar to Avon-by-the-Sea on Route 71 (Main Street) as you cross the draw bridge over the Shark River into Avon-by-the-Sea, police are often parked in front of the soccer field facing the the bridge. They are waiting for anything going over the posted limit. They’ll stop you if you’re even minimally over the 35mph speed limit, and you’ll not escape with a warning. Small (0.4 square mile) seashore town with a $1 million+ police budget.
