Lakehurst, New Jersey Speed Traps

The other day I observed a police car behind the Center Ice Sports Bar (formerly Blondie’s Airship) facing the road. Impossible to see if you are headed toward 70.

If you drive west on Route 70 towards lakehurst, there are a lot of police. In lakehurst, manchester,and pemberton. All along route 70 near fort dix. Be careful.

On rt 70, by the Circle Landmark restaurant and the O’Neal motel, sometimes there is a police car sitting in the grass at the center of the traffic circle.

Police double as tax collectors for this economically depressed town. 24 hour enforcement of ALL traffic offenses. By day, prey on elderly residents of neighboring retirement communities. After 10 PM, drivers on Route 70 should expect to be stopped. Radar traps, patrols, occasional check points. Aggressive enforcement of parking offenses with over-the-top fines have helped turn the Union Ave commercial district into a ghost town. Exhibit A of the downward spiral that occurs when when small town government substitutes tickets for taxes.
