Lawrenceville, New Jersey Speed Traps
Red Light Camera – Corner of Franklin Corner Rd. & Route 1
Not a speed trap, but a nasty ‘pilot program’ camera that seems to be flashing even when people miss the light by .2 seconds, or if people turn right on red at 3 mph. I’ve even seen it flash in the middle of our green cycle, so it may be malfunctioning…either way, watch it around here. I live right on this corner and have watched. It causes a lot of people to dangerously pick up speed or slam on the brakes.
Denow Road between Law-Penn Rd and Federal City Rd
Speed limit on Denow Road between Lawrenceville-Pennington Road and Federal City Road is 45 mph except for a brief stretch of perhaps 50 yards where it is 25 mph. There is no school or playground, etc. that might warn a driver to be cautious. The officer parks in bushes just beyond this stretch.
Princeton Pike and Gainsboro Rd at Lawrence Middle School
Cop hides behind the school is this badly under-posted 25 mph zone (the whole Princeton Pk. is 25 and should be 40), but it seems only enforced during school hours. I haven’t seen a lot of enforcement on this road in general since everyone drives 15-20 mph over the speed limit (around 40 mph), but he was there and you won’t see him if you’re coming from Franklin Corner Rd. Slow down to 25 or 30 during school hrs and you should be okay. Might want to watch out coming down Gainsboro Rd from 206 too, you can’t see him from there either. Speed limit on Gainsboro Rd is also 25, but its a less ridiculous (most people drive 30-35)
Shell Station corner of Rt. 1 South & Franklin Corner Rd.
During early morning hours from about 6 AM to 7 AM the police park in the Shell Gas Station on Rt 1 South and Franklin Corner Road and pull cars over who speed past the gas station.
Rte 1 and Bakers Basin Rd.
heading north on rte 1 is a jug handle exit at bakers basin rd. that in the past was used to cross rte 1 onto Franklin Corner Rd. They have recently put up a "no left turn" sign and they sit (usually in Mrs. G’s parking lot) and wait to ticket people that are unaware of the recent change. They do this on a daily basis.
