Middletown, New Jersey Speed Traps
Swimming River Road, south of Lincroft
Middletown cops set up on Swimming River Road as it crosses the Swimming River bridge by the Reservoir spillway, the roadway sinks abruptly as it crosses the river and the cops sit in the Reservoir access driveway. They target both north and south bound traffic and are most often there in the evening just after dusk. The speed limit is 35 and they stop people doing just over 40.
Appleton Avenue and Route 36
Police hide in Old Wilde Scallon parking lot. Unually don’t see them until it’s too late.
They also hide by Leonard Fire Department (Up the block from Wilde Scallon), but now that the WAWA is going up, their line of vision will be block from that location.
I also saw them use Academy Bus Terminal (one block down from Wilde Scallon) parking lot on Route 36.
For the most part Route 36 from East Road South in Belford threw to Sandy Hook. Same North Bound, but watch out when going by Naval Base, they hide in trees North Bound there.
West Front Street near Penny Lane
A car usually sit in Penny Lane clocking cars going west on West Front Street. Speed limit is 40 MPH but to do that it feels like you’re standing still. For years it was 50 MPH then suddenly they changed it.
Middletown-Lincroft Road near Sunnyside Road
On Middletown-Lincroft Road, between Four Winds Drive and Sunnyside Road, there is a spot where the parkway overpass is and police frequently sit there — can get you coming from either direction and you don’t see them until it is too late. Speed limit is 40 mph but you will pick up speed coming down the hill by the Horse Park and just as you round the curve, the radar already has you.
