New Providence, New Jersey Speed Traps
Livingston Avenue
Frequent radar enforcement, including Instant-on during morning rush hour. Occasional nighttime enforcement.
South Street
Police sit halfway down the hill by the church. Instant-on radar may be used.
Diamond Hill Road near Mountain Avenue
New Providence cruiser quite frequently parked right in the entrance to the Mack-Cali building at the corner of Mountain Avenue and Diamond Hill Road, along the northbound lane of Diamond Hill, just before the right turn ramp onto Mountain. This private property position gives the officer command of the entire intersection area, particularly those coming from and to Route 78.
Springfield Avenue near Terrace Road
Cars heading east bound on Springfield Ave. have to be aware of police cars waiting at the top of Terrace Rd. by the Methodist Church. The police cars are facing towards Berkley Heights. As it starts to get dark they sit there with their lights off waiting to pounce. There is a slight hill there that starts at the top of Magnolia. You are picking up speed with out realizing it.
Pearl Street near Union to Central Avenue
Police cars have been seen on both side streets on south side of Pearl, in the curve on Valentine, and to the west on Central. When you turn onto Pearl after coming down the hill on Union, you suddenly have to drop to 25. There is enough of a down slope that if you don’t consciously brake, you will quickly exceed 25 even rolling. We have been stopped at 11:30 at night and 11 in the morning.
