North Bergen, New Jersey Speed Traps
Rt. 495 Westbound after Central Avenue
It’s 50mph; but if you’re not paying attention, route 495 is on a downgrade after Central Avenue heading west and you may find yourself unknowingly speeding. A county sheriff is waiting at the entrance ramp from Kennedy Boulevard, receiving radar info from another officer.
Boulevard East/ North Hudson park/Bulls Ferry Rd
Hudson County sheriff sits near the bus stops often with the lights off at night. They even have pulled over NJ Transit busses.
Secaucus Rd (between Turnpike and Rt. 1 & 9)
It is a four lane road with no businesses or residences so it is very easy to go over the posted 25mph limit and they know this. There are plenty of roads in NJ that are four lanes with houses and local businesses that are posted as 40mph and are perfectly safe. North Bergen keeps it at 25mph since it is a cash cow for them. Cops that pull you over there are nasty too. I have been pulled over and know other people they have gotten there also. Now that i do the posted 25mph the cars behind me get angry and i have had stuff thrown at my car. Something really needs to be done about this road.
Bergenline Avenue near 76th-78th Street
North Bergen Police Department’s traffic unit has a new hang out here. They sit on either side, usually two of them, with radars set up on marked (stickers but no light bar) stealth units. One is looking north on Bergenline Ave. and the other looking South also on Bergenline Ave. They seemed to have also been pulling people over for driving while using a cell phone. I got hit here once already so be aware as they have NO tolerance. I work near by and watch these guys do this all day, especially after 3-4pm.
West Side Avenue near Paterson Plk to83rd Street
Cars hide in building driveways especially on the east side of roadway and by the North Bergen Sewage Treatment bldg.
