South Bound Brook, New Jersey Speed Traps
Main Street
This has been mentioned before, but it bears repeating: When you approach South Bound Brook (SBB) via Main St. (Easton Ave.), the speed limit drops down rapidly from 45 to 25. There is always at least one cop monitoring traffic on this stretch. If you speed, it is not a matter of if—but when—they will pull you over.
If you have to be in town, be sure that you use cruise control *at all times*. South Bound Brook’s finest tried pulling me over twice by riding my butt while on CC, but they were unable to pull me over.
Be sure all your paperwork is in order. They love the new plate-scanning technology and if your registration is lapsed, they will pull you over. Also expect that you will need to tow your car home. This happened to me .25 miles from my house and the cop was inflexible—my car had to be towed.
Also: If you get a speeding ticket—or any moving violation—you will be required to go to court. You will also be required to pay these money-grubbing bastards even more money for the infraction. You also get to lose a few hours of your life in their little money-making court operation.
Avoid SBB at all costs, frankly. There are other ways to get where you need to go. Use alternate routes through Franklin Township, or utilize 287 to bypass the town. There is nothing in SBB that you cannot obtain anywhere else.

The police set up a cruise sometimes in the school parking lot. They strictly enforce the 25 mph speed limit. Further toward Amwell Ave., they are equally strict about the 35 mph limits near the 287 overpass.
