West Long Branch, New Jersey Speed Traps
Hwy 36 & Monmouth Road and Hwy 36 & Broadway
Red Light Cameras and No U-Turn Cameras, newly installed Sept 2011
West Palmer Avenue
Don’t try to avoid traffic lights or speed down a side street..
The West Palmer Avenue "cut thru" is not the answer. You will get a ticket for going over the speed limit.
Larchwood Ave.
I’m surprised nobody has added this before. WLB police rarely set up traps on Rt. 36 where it’s needed, but they go nuts on Larchwood Ave., South of Cedar Ave. (Rt. 71). The speed limit is a ridiculous 25 MPH. The police set up either right on Larchwood or behind the bushes on a side st. If you’re over driving over 25 MPH and don’t have a radar detector, you’re doomed. They leave the radar on all the time and are easily detected.
Oakwood Ave.
If you’re going South on Oakwood, past the hill and around the turn you may see a WLB police car with radar on the side of the road. The speed limit is 25 MPH, but folks naturally go faster coming down that hill, so this trap is more than a little unfair. If you’re driving over 25 MPH they will nail you. The good news: they leave the radar on all the time and are easily detected with any radar detector.
West Bound State Route 36
Only during the Monmouth Park Racetrack season are the State Route 36 corridor traffic signals controlled by the local police. Vehicles looking to turn onto State Route 71 north try to bypass the backed up traffic by riding the right shoulder only to get pulled into the the adjacent parking lot where a team of local police are waiting.
