Andover, New York Speed Traps
County Road 12 in 45 mph zone but can see 55 sign.
Officers sit behind pine trees. The officers are very friendly and almost apologize for writing tickets. After you clear there about 2 miles North a State Trooper sits. Alfred State Students use this road and that’s why the law sits on it.
State Rt 417 West
40 Zone going out of town very few houses. 55 MPH sign in sight, maybe 25 to 50 yards. Officer polite, but we all know this is for revenue. Fine was $185 and judge blamed that on state surcharge.
State Route 21
Enforcement is made with higher speed limit clearly visible on way out of town headed North. Immediately in front of line of vision, one can see 40MPH just ahead (about 50 yards). They choose this point just before the 40MPH sign to enforce 30MPH which is in effect in the village proper. Upon leaving the village,it is a rural area in the countryside area. Enforcement personnel are courteous almost to the point of embarrassment. One leaves knowing revenue (and quotas?) are the issue not safety!
State Highway 21 near Main Street
Heading out of town toward Alfred & Almond there is a very long 35, then 45, zone. The school playing fields are to your right. It is worse coming the other way because it is downhill and almost impossible to keep it down to the posted speed.
