Athens, New York Speed Traps
Southbound Rte 385 approaching Village of Athens
Athens police position themselves so that they are monitoring southbound traffic on State Route 385 coming down the hill into the village between Brick Row and Union Street in the vicinity of the Athens Boat Launch. Speed limit changes abruptly from 55MPH to 30MPH and they are usually waiting for drivers at the bottom of the hill just before Union Street.
Union St. and North Franklin
Union and Franklin are residential streets that intersect, but the streets are very vegetated. Cars shouldn’t drive too fast, as there are pedestrians and kids playing in the area. Village of Athens police cruise or wait in the area. You might be tempted to speed up union or down Franklin, but don’t.
