Groveland, New York Speed Traps

Highway drops 55 to 40 and back to 55.

There are a couple more sites on interstate 390 they are traveling southbound but could also be used for northbound traffic there is the well known trap under the Rt 36 overpass, but traveling south they also hide up under the the next overpass they drive up a hill and there is no way to see them until you are on top of them. Also there are many "state turn-arounds" the spots that connect the north and south bound lanes and i have seen state troopers parked in these looking for speeders. Generally anything over 75 will get you a ticket (posted limit is 65) there are a handful of these turn-arounds between exit 6 (Groveland- rt 36) and exit 5 (Dansville – Rt 36)

On Interstate 390 North or South (although generally northbound) at Exit #6 Sonyea/Route 36. Watch under the Rte. 36 overpass and look for the New York State Police running radar hidden behind the bridge abutments. This is a consistent and well-worn speed trap.

Really this is just a standard polic car waiting behind the supports of an overpass. The trick is that it’s on the other side of a hill that’s just high enough, you won’t see the potential for the trap until it’s too late.

I don’t remember the exact mile markers, but this was going North on I-390 in New York. The town of Groveland is small enough that there might actually only be the one overpass, and there were signs for "Town of Groveland". Sorry I can’t be more specific.
