Guilderland, New York Speed Traps
Crossgates Mall Road Before I-87 Ramp
Cops will setup early Friday mornings (~7am) and shoot LIDAR at traffic cutting through mall. They sit on the guard rail and walk out into the road to grab speeders. Speed limit is 30, traffic lights are not functioning (flashing yellow and red) because mall doesn’t open for another 3 hours. They pick off speeders in this area.
E/W Lydius St. and Carman Rd.
Cops tend to sit in a small paved area next to the Carman Alliance Church and love to snag people either speeding down Carman or coming off of E. Lydius, as the road was built for 55 mph traffic but the limit was lowered to 30 mph long, long ago. Most people tend to speed down this road as it has fairly wide shoulders for a 30 mph road and is almost perfectly straight for several miles. I’ve found it’s best to use cruise control on that road, as even the best of ’em have found themselves going 15 over the limit without batting an eye. This trap tends to be set up at nighttime, when people are likely to be coming home from bars or wherever it is people go to drink and have fun these days. So between roughly seven PM and two or three AM, look out!
Becker Rd.
Police vehicile sets back on power lines area watching you come up the hill and the corner.
Johnston Rd. County Rt. 201
Since most people ignore the 30 mph speed limit on Johnston Rd. it is patrolled at various times throughout the day by Guilderland P.D., State Police and Albany Co. Sheriffs. This is a good thing as deer and road conditions have caused more than one serious accident on Johnston. It is a prime place to get a ticket as it is double lined for almost 4 miles and this is a real temptation of impatient drivers to pass anyways. The number of drivers that flash each other during times when the road is patrolled would lead me to believe they consider it a speed trap, but that depends on who is providing the definition.
Intersection of 20 and 155
After 1AM cops will sit in the parking lot across from CVS. Will pull you over for anything. They are looking for drunk drivers!
