Queens, New York Speed Traps
71/ Continental and Queens Blvd.
There is a camera that sits atop the light heading east, I am not sure about west. Go through the light on the wrong side of yellow and picture of your car and plates will arrive in the mail.
astoria blvd and 108 street
watch out at the yellow lights on astoria…especially near 108th street , because once it turns red,and u proceed thru.. there is a camera up top ..they got a picture of ur plates going thru the red light. my friend from upstate got one, cause hes not used to fast yellows in nyc, and it was snowing that day too… 50 dollar fine. no points
Queens Blvd. between Yellowstone Blvd. and 63rd Drive
Police car usually sits on median around 67th Ave. or hidden on Manhattan-bound service road between Yellowstone Blvd. and 63rd Drive. No visual until it’s too late. Watch out for major crackdown Thursday Jan. 25, 2001 in response to media reports about average of a fatal pedestrian accident every six weeks. Watch out for dumb pedestrians too!
Clearview Expressway
I strongly agree with the current posting concerning this speed trap; however, enforcement is HIGH not moderate. Yes, the limit is 50, traffic is usually very light, and the NYPD is out there, almost ALL the time. The locals and commuters know the deal…you will see them sticking exactly to 50 MPH. Out of towners are not so lucky. In my 15 years of commuting to/from New York, the Clearview Expressway is speed trap #1. Northbound lanes see more enforcement than southbound lanes.
Throgs Neck Bridge – Queensbound side
Once you crest the top of the roadway your radar detector may start to chirp. THIS IS NOT A FALSE SIGNAL!!!! I have traveled this road for three years, but only once or twice there has been a marked car using radar in the median area at the Clearview Expressway, Cross Island Pkwy split. The bridge is 3 lanes and nice and wide and is just begging for speed. One trick i use, always slow down when you cant see the road ahead. Once you crest the hill, they will read your speed, and if you come over the hill over the speed limit, your gonna come down well over it.
