Rhinebeck, New York Speed Traps
US Highway 9 near Rockefeller Lane
Just South of the Rhinebeck traffic light, going down hill outside of town when going South. Usually sitting in the American Legion Park, but occasionally in the parking lot on the opposite side of the road. You are lucky if they let you go at 5mph over the limit.
State Route 9 near South Street
Police car sits in the Legion Park entrance, facing south. When cars travel northbound on Rte. 9 into the village of Rhinebeck, they come around a downhill turn, and have to brake to maintain the posted speed limit. Otherwise, by the time the motorist can see the police car, it is too late.
Mt. Rutsen Road near River Road
There are several places along Mt. Rutsen Rd. where the police car sits with radar. It is usually after a bend in the road.
Route 9, between the village center and Route 9-G
The 30-mph speed limits north of the village have recently been extended from Northern Dutchess Hospital to the main entrance of the Dutchess County Fairgrounds, and the speed limit from there to 9-G has been reduced from 55 to 45. Long-time residents accustomed to the higher speed limits often get snagged.
