Vernon, New York Speed Traps
Peterboro St near the town hall & school
they sit hidden by evergreens at the school for eastbound; and in the church lot for westbound.
Kids need to be safe, just remember it IS a school zone; but they sit there even after hours and non school days. Get stopped on a Sat or Sun or holiday or late at night and ticket will say ‘speeding in school zone’, even if it was NOT a school day. Misleading.
Rt 31 or Verona St right at the village line
entering the village limits coming from Rome or 365, on Verona St. (Rt 31) watch the speed limit signs carefully. You don’t really think you are in the village yet, but it is the outskirts, and they get ’em there.
State Rt. 5, near the mason jar
This speed is not necessary. Appears as Vernon is looking for more revenue
State Highway Rte. 5 near Mason Jar
Village police constantly sit in various parking lots with radar. Low crime leads to time on their hands, and speeding is common thru town, but Vernon carries it too far. I will say that, for some reason, people don’t obey the speed restricition even though it’s not an unfair one.
