Washingtonville, New York Speed Traps
St. Mary’s Church’s Back Parking Lot, North of Rt. 94 & 208
A marked black and white Washingtonville police cruiser (Dodge Charger) sits in the back parking lot of St. Mary’s Church and clocks north bound traffic on State Route 208. The parking lot is surrounded by dense formation of trees and shrubbery, which shade the parking lot and make the cruiser much less visible than if it were parked in plain sight.
Moreover, North bound Rt. 208 has a sweeping bend right before the church and the back parking lot, so once you round the bend and see the cruiser, you are well within the range of the Ka signals.
This is a craftily chosen speed trap spot and, as such, should not be taken lightly, especially considering the artificially low speed limit of only 25 mph on this stretch of the state highway. It should be noted that Washingtonville police are well known around the area to give 5 mph over limit speeding tickets.
1/2 mile passed hudson heritage
If you are heading down Rt 94 towards 5 corners, they sit on the right hand side just passed T&M deli 2 with no lights on. Question? Isn’t a cop suppost to sit with a light on,aren’t they supposted to be somewhat visible.Last I knew that was considered entrapment,we should look into this further. What you think!!!!
Taft Elementary School on Toleman Rd
Police cars are often sitting in the parking lot just waiting for someone to drive by. Sometimes there are even two one facing each way kind of hidden by the announcement board.
Center of town – Bank of America or TD Banknorth sides
They can view all angles while sitting idle in a car. Sometimes with the lights on (obvious) or sometimes late at night with lights off (very tricky). Could pop you for rolling a stop sign coming from Toleman RD.
State Route 208 near CYO parking lot
Going southbound on rt. 208, entering village, speed limit drops to 30. Patrol cars park behind shrubbery and retaining wall in CYO parking lot, by the time it’s physically possible to see them, it’s too late. I grew up in the town and still visit, you can count on seeing a cop there at least once a day. Sometimes the patrol car is an unmarked Impala.
