Watertown, New York Speed Traps
Interstate 81 near Exit Number 43
This should be listed under Watertown, even though it is just South of the town line. At Exit 43 (Kellogg Hill), on the Northbound (toward Watertown) entrance ramp, there is always a statie on speed patrol. This trap seems to be manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is rare to see this onramp empty, there is almost always a statie there on speed patrol. The way the ramp is angled, you can’t see the cop (if you’re headed North) until you are right beside him.
State Highway 3 near Black River Bridge
As you approach the Black River Bridge on NY3 the limit is 45 westbound into town. It changes to 30 on the bridge. They nail you as you are coming off the bridge and do this from a church parking lot on the right hand side of the road just after you clear the bridge.
I-81 between Watertown and the Canadian Border
When going on I-81 between Watertown and the Canadian Border watch out! The police car sits somewhere on the median and tries to catch "innocent" speeders. Of course it’s a good business, since this area is very remote, and nobody is on the road. But that’s the trick!
By the way – enforcement is in both directions (NB and SB), so drive with the speed limit in this area, even if it doesn’t make any sense!
