Westport, New York Speed Traps

Driving North from Port Henry to Westport, the speed limit is 55. When you pass the Westport Mental Health on your right and the Westport Airstrip on your Left, start slowing down. There is no sign indicating "Reduced Speed Ahead". It goes directly to 35 mph at the top of the hill heading north into town past the town sign but far before the village and a police cruiser likes to sit on the left at the grey old garage building, pointing up the hill.

Road goes 35mph for over 3 miles. Speed limit should be at least 45mph. Troopers sit in a driveway, obscured by shade and at an odd angle to the road. They see you before you see them. This is also less than a 1/4 mile from where the highway goes back to 55mph. They catch most people beginning to accelerate for the straightaway. Very lucrative and sneaky.
