Raleigh, North Carolina Speed Traps
Glenwood Ave. 5 points. where Fairview and Glenwood intersect
There is usually a marked SUV either in the BP parking lot hiding behind the wall so you can’t see him or he’ll be sitting at the Appliance Center next to the church, pretty hard to see coming. speed limits 35
South Saunders St. North into downtown Raleigh
Broad 5 lane road with an S curve and long downhill section. Speed limit is 35. Crusiers sit under overpass with radar and catch drivers who have just taken South Saunders St. exit off Interstate 440.
Wade Ave and Edwards Mill Road
Once you get off of I-40 going into Raleigh until going under 440 beltline (Raleigh-Chapel Hill Expressway) especially where Wade avenue intersects with Edwards Mill Road). The speed limit goes from 65 to 55 once you get off of 40 but doesn’t feel like it should be 55. Police frequently on the lookout going both directions, sometimes on motorcycles with hand-held radar guns. Very easy to think it is still 65 mph but it is actually 55.
Lake Wheeler Ramp onto I-40/440
RPD posts serveral police units on the ramp to the "Outer Beltline." When I merged onto I-40/440 toward the Benson exit, I witnessed no less than 5 cars that had been pulled over and two additional units that were still on the ramp, waiting for more speeders. Of course, it’s one’s own fault when getting caught for speeding, but perhaps knowing about this trap, some travelers will slow down.
