Kent, Ohio Speed Traps
Rhodes Road between Horning and Route 59
Police will sit in Gabriels or the Crossroads Church parking lots on the West side of Rhodes Road. Speed limit is 25 and they’ll nab you anything over 30.
They also watch the light carefully to catch people going through when it changes. Even if you know it was yellow when you entered the intersection (legal), they’ll assert it was red when you entered (citation).
Between Kent and Brimfield on State Route 43
Heading North on 43 as you enter into Kent just past Meloy Rd a cop sits tucked in on right side. Speed limit goes from 45 to 25 in a 100 ft stretch. By the time you see him its too late. Thank god for my radar detector, It always picks up the radar before I get there.
State Route 43 near River Bend Boulevard
This speed trap is used by Kent police, State Troopers and the Sheriff’s Dept either in the morning or very late at night. The police will sit away from the road where they are not visable to traffic, in the parking lot of Franklin Elementary School directly across from Davy Tree HQ.
State Route 59 near Longmere Drive
A Kent police favorite speed trap. Going over the bridge towards the Kent car strip, a Kent cop will sit off the right side of the road just after the top of the hill traveling towards the intersection of Main St & Longmere Dr. You can’t see the patrol car until you pass the hill by then its too late. This spot is bad at the beginning & end of the month when Kent has to meet their monthly quota.
Lake Street near Harvey Street
Kent Police favorite speed trap. Usually two Kent cops will sit in the corner gravel parking lot across the street from Gougler Industries at the intersection of Lake & Harvey streets.
