Asher, Oklahoma Speed Traps
Highway 39
Highway 39 (E and W) intersects with Highway 177 (N and S).
When heading west on HWY 39, the speed drops quickly from 65 to 40, all within a quarter of a mile. I know about this area and always slow down. If you miss these signs, then there’s no room for error because you will get pulled over by a cop hiding downhill just before the intersection. I was asking my kids what they wanted for dinner and didn’t notice the speed change. As soon as I topped the hill and saw the cop, I knew I was speeding, but it was too late. I got a ticket for going 63 in a 40 and a reckless driving ticket ($465 total).
I’m a single dad and don’t make much money. Most of my money goes to bills and sometimes I’m left with $100 a week to get food, gas, and whatever else my family needs. This ticket is going to really put my family in a bind this month. Not only that I’m labeled as a reckless driver now. It was a mistake.
East of town
The speed limit dropped from 65 to 40 and she was sitting hidden down in a little gully on the south side of the road, but facing east, just on the other side of the 40 speed limit. No way to slow down fast enough. First and last time through Asher!
Asher, near the 4-way stop
I drove through this town twice daily for 3 years. I was never stopped (because I was warned by everyone I knew), but I saw other cars being pulled over VERY frequently. The speed limits are different than most places (30, 40, 50 instead of 35, 45, 55) if I recall correctly. If you ask anyone within 100 miles what they know about Asher, 98 of them will say “speed trap”.
any direction you enter the small town, you will get stopped.
There is one officer and he stops anyone who is even close to speeding, There isn’t even a town there just a couple quick stops and the cop writing tickets.
Hwy 177
Speed limit drops quickly……cops hidden behind trees, buildings, etc. They give no warnings. Many instances of people insisting that they were not speeding; especially those who were not residents.
