Ottawa, Ontario Speed Traps
Cedarview Road near Fallowfield Road
Police cars parked on small streets corners; using radar. Speed limit here is 60 km/h, but traffic usually goes around 80 km/h.
Trap seen already several days in a row, both AM rush hour and PM rush hour.
Isabella Street near O’Connor Street
The trap is somewhere close to O’Connor. It is on a side street where there are basketball courts (on the right hand side). the cops sit next to the courts and I think they use radar.
Bottriel Street near Merkley Street
AM Radar trap at Merkley and Bottriel in Fallingbrook, Orleans. An unmarked Impala will be parked on the side of the road on Merkley (the west side of the intersection). A lone officer will be visibly standing out in the open near the car with the radar gun in plain view, and will try to nail traffic coming in three directions: North and South on Bottriel, and Westbound on Merkley. You can easily avoid this trap if you pay attention.
State Highway 31 near Mitch Owens Road
A major traffic enforcement blitz is underway in south Ottawa in the new year (2004). Enforcement is fanatical–slip just a few miles over the speed limit and you can expect to be stopped. The situation is particularly bad on Albion Road (especially near the Lester Road intersection, where the speed limit drops from 80 kilometers to 50 kilometers in the space of a few hundred feet) and south Bank Street/Highway 31. The police aren’t just going after egregious offenders–they are pulling people over for the most trivial of offences. Beware!
