Scarborough, Ontario Speed Traps
Kingston Road near Kingston Road Exit off 401
When you exit the 401 off Kingston Rd,,the speed trap is either in the 80 km/hr or 60 km/hr zone. Be careful, this stretch of the Kingston Rd is as smooth as driving on the 401…watch as you pass the motels and dealerships..In fact, I was ticketed here in error…despite using cruise control..I try to avoid this route altogether
Clonmore Avenue near Victoria Park Avenue
There is a bend on Clonmore Av.that is a 40 kph and they usually set up east of Victoria Park viewing to the east to catch the unwary as they approach a 50 kmp sign.
Bellamy Road near Lawrence Avenue
The cops are usually parked on a church’s driveway on Bellamy just south of Brimorton (west side). The speed limit also changes from 60 to 50 after you cross Lawrence Ave. and they are usually hiding on the street before the bridge. A lot of them are also looking for people not stopping on a four way stop and they park on Porchester or the GO Train parking lot.
Steeles East Avenue near Scarborough/Pickering Townline
Taunton Road westbound, turns into Steeles Ave East westbound, at the stop lights at the Scarborough/Pickering Town Line.
The east side of the lights (Pickering) has a posted limit
of 80 kph. The west side of the lights(Scarborough) has an immediate posted limit of 60 kmp. Same road, same conditions. Only difference – a traffic signal.
There is a slight incline in the road on the Scarborough side of the lights making checking out the cruiser condition ahead on Steeles East impossible.
About 50 feet to the west of these lights, Concession 11 (going north) ends at Steeles. It is a ‘bushy’ corner. The cruisers sit at the bottom of Concession 11, behind the bushes, nailing anyone coming west-bound through the lights at a steady 80 kph.
Or the cruiser is parked in the driveway of Wittamore’s Farm, another 50 feet westbound on Steeles East, at Bear Road.
Solution: Brake to 60 immediately (but safely) at the lights, until you see if Concession 11 and/or Whittamore’s Farm driveway is clear of cruisers.
If you come up to the lights, and notice the traffic is moving very slowly, stay in line, do not pass. The driver at the front has seen the cruiser and is taking appropriate action to warn those behind.
Do Not accelerate to 80 after being stopped for the red light west-bound. They’re waiting at least 4 times a month over the crown of the hill.
Morning View Trail near Morningside Road
