Reedsport, Oregon Speed Traps
Hwy 101 @ Hwy 38 & anywhere along HWY 101 in and out of town
Revenue starved city cops hang out just over the bridge to catch unsuspecting motorists who turn on to HWY 38 going through the mostly ghosted tourist district and its 25 MPH speed limit. Going 30 will cost you at least $165.
Around the North end of town before the bridge
City publicly admits that their speed trap is used to pay for police.
16th and 101
Reedsport police use radarguns from this location quite a bit. They know cars accelerate down hill so most vehicles will be exceeding the speed limit unless they are traveling well below the speed limit or if driving at the speed limit slam on their breaks. The Reedsport police are hurting local businesses by conducting a speed trap at this location.
U.S. 101, mid-way through town
Not only did I observe a Sheriff’s car pulling onto southbound 101 from State Highway 38, but at the top of the hill, another Sheriff’s car was perpendicular to the road. They were monitoring speed, perhaps both going southbound, which is up a hill, and northbound, which is relatively flat until you reach the cop. They are better hidden going northbound, but southbound one would have to look ahead to notice. Plus, going northbound, if one doesn’t notice the cop and picks up speed going downhill…zap! This was part of a Saturday night blitz in Reedsport, 4 Sheriff’s cars (including these 2) from just south of town, who almost outnumbered the other vehicles I saw!
Throughout 101 hwy.
Reedsport is about a mile to a mile and half long. They have traffic cops with both front and back radar equipment to tag drivers passing through to other locations.
