Exton, Pennsylvania Speed Traps
State Route 30 West near Ship Inn
This is the school crossing across from a Catholic school on Route 30 West, by the intersection of Ship Road and Route 30 in Exton, PA. This is the Sts. Philip and James School. The light indicating a need to slow down to 15 mph was on, but was very faint and was not easily visible. I was going 20 mph because the person behind me was pushing me and I would have been rear-ended if I had not gone 20 mph. No children were in sight at this time and it was late in the afternoon. The patrolman at the side of the road stopped me but did not stop the car behind me and I got a ticket for over $100. Now when I go past this site I put the flashers on so others behind me will know to slow down. Another way to avoid this trap is to go on Swedesford Road at this time of day; this other road parallels Route 30 West.
State Route 30 near After Rt 100
Traveling Westbound on Bypass 30 after Exton Route 100 exit and before Business 30 exit there are lines drawn at the curve. One Police vehicle sits well off the Bypass in the parking lot of Businesses on the hill above the Eastbound lanes and times your speed between the 2 lines at the curve. Ticketing policemen sit on the shoulder and wait for the call to pull you over.
State Route 100 near Eagleview Road
Sometimes up to 3 cops hide out on the road to the right and get people coming north and southbound on 100.
State Route 30 By-Pass near State Route 100
Traveling eastbound on ByPass Route 30 before crossing over Route 100 right after the Downingtown onramp.
The spotter sits up in the "eagles nest" in the office complex parling lot on that hillside on the right before you pass the large rusty train bridge. He will clock you around the Downingtown onramp and send the chaser to pull you right around the Rt100 exit. This trap is deadly because you have no sightline to the spotter. If you are lucky you’ll see the chaser off to the right side about 1 mile ahead just after the train bridge.
US Highway 202 near State Highway 30
Both state and local police departments patrol the Route 202/Business Route 30/Route 30 Bypass interchange. They typically catch north bound traffic and three points. The first (heading northward) is about a quarter north of the first exit. Police sit in the middle of the highway at the apex of a curve. The next speed trap is right after the first exit, the police sit in the middle behind a bridge (you can see the top of the car, but it can be surprising). Occasionally they will also sit a quarter mile or so farther down against the lane divider (this is fairly obvious). The last spot they will sit is about a mile down at the very end of the interchange in the middle. They sit at the end of the guardrail lane divider on an emergency cross over.
