Jacksonboro, South Carolina Speed Traps
Jacksonboro south…the speed is 50 MPH on Highway 17
This area is POSTED 50 MPH and there are up to 12 patrol cars that patrol it enmasse…especially the passing lane just before the Ashepoo River. This is the direct route from Savannah to Charleston and an area that has incoming logging trucks…so the speed limit is warranted.
US Highway US 17 near Edisto River bridge
Coming through Jacksonboro, heading North on US 17 (four-lane w/o median), the speed limit is a snail’s pace of 30 mph. It is a short stint of no more than 3/4 mile, but folks regularly do 40 to 50 mph. After passing thru, just past the old Edisto Motel on the right, SC troopers sit facing traffic near the Edisto River bridge. I’ve seen them pull three over at a time. Drivers familiar with the area know that the limit increases to 60 just past the bridge. The urge to wind it up and go after the 30 mph zone is usually the victim’s demise. DON’T go over 35 ’til past the bridge!
