Landrum, South Carolina Speed Traps
State Route 14 near Interstate 26
They hide just off Hwy. 14 in an area east of town about a mile from Interstate 26. The zone is posted 35. The road is a big, broad, 3 lane (two very wide lanes with a turning lane) highway and you feel as if you’re going at walking speed when you’re doing 35.
This isn’t a public safety initiative. This is an exploitative speed trap and a real money maker for the town. They’re out there a lot. They also patrol north of town on HWY 176 from the juntion of HWY 14 to the North Carolina state line where the speed limit drops from 50? down to 40.
The town of Landrum is a little town on an old railroad line that is now defunct. I guess they can’t think of more honorable ways to fund their operations. I Have to drive through there occasionally, but I’d avoid this place entirely if I didn’t. Either stay away or slow down to a crawl, regardless of what all the other traffic is doing.
Hwy 14 , 1 mile south of town
Police set in the closed BiLo Parking lot or cruise up and down 14 south of town. The speed limit changes 2 miles south of town from 55 to 35 without any change in scenery (rural) and on a steep downhill grade. Perfect pickings for additional Police revenue.
