Nichols, South Carolina Speed Traps
Hwy. 76/74 at a curve where Hwy. 9 meets
As you enter Nichols going east toward Wilmington or the beach the speed goes from 55 to 35 mph. Then for about 2 blocks the speed drops to 25 mph. There are detour signs all around (which we were reading) and by the time the patrol car pulled us over we were sitting in front of a 40 mph sign. This definitely is the definition of a speed trap. We were really surprised to find out we were in a 25 mph zone. To be fair 25 mph was posted. We went back and checked, but we didn’t see them on our first pass thru Nichols. This will be our last time driving thru this town.
100 yard stretch of 25 near east side of town on 74/76
Headed east, speed drops to 35 then suddenly to 25 as you think you are about to leave town. Officer sits in unmarked car at the Exxon station and gets those leaving as well as those coming into town. No discussion; quick canned speech and a ticket.
Nochols s.c.
this town has the traffic to be able to write hundreds of tickets a day during beach season . the 25 mph signs are hidden so you never know what the speed limit is at any given spot. my suggestion is stay away.use hwy 38 and take your business to other counties and cities

Po-dump local police wait in an unmarked police car near turn for Hwy 9
Nichols
As soon as you enter Nichols, SC and go through the stop sign – they are waiting for out of state license plates, personalized plates and family vehicles. The officer has a very rehearsed speech and no answers to any questions as to why you were pulled over.
