Nichols, South Carolina Speed Traps
State Highway #9
Going through Nichols on Hwy 9 to or from the beach you are likely to get stopped anywhere within the city limits where the speed limit drops from 55 down to 35 and then down to 25. They like especially to sit off the left side of the road just after you hit the city limits going south towards the beach.
State Highway 9 near Nichols Street
As you drive west out of town, the speed limit is 35 MPH going into a curve. As you come out of the curve, the officer sits back off to the right side facing on-coming traffic. Though as you come out of the curve, the opposite side traffic sign reads 35 MPH (incoming traffic into town must slow from 40 mph). The officer stated "the speed is 35 mph going out of town and 40 mph coming into town at that point." Never heard of such a thing.
Hwy 9 west/
Where Hwy 9 widens out from a two lane to a four lane -coming into town limits going west (towards Dillion). This wide open four lane (even though in town limits) is posted from a 60-55mph zone (outside limits) down to a 25mph zone (inside limits). As you past a service station on you’re left going around a sharp right bend BEWARE! of a NPD cruiser staking-out in a (bank?) parking lot. It’s very hard to see, and dosen,’t even look like the same spot going back the opposite direction. Seems they’re out to get out of towners.
