Olar, South Carolina Speed Traps

Never saw the 30 mph sign. Speed limit goes from 60 to 30 with zero warning. Police Chief was in unmarked white Buick and brags about his speed trap on Facebook. This town consists of one speed trap and one municipal office to take your money.

45 to 30 to caught – no matter what – you drive so they can EAT!!!

You will miss the signs saying it drops from 60 to 30 because it really isn’t a town/city at all. You’ll be cruising on the highway through essentially rural farmland and will miss the fact that you went by a “city” because it’s just a couple abandoned stores by a train track, plus a speed trap. The officer will try to give you a whopping $350 ticket for “thoughtless operation” in lieu of a speeding ticket ($80ish) as a ‘break’ because it doesn’t carry points but gives them way more $$$. Highway robbery.

If you look at the places on 321 that have been listed as speed traps, you have Swansea, Denmark, Norway and none of those places have a listing in the past several years. And then there is Olar with five just since September, 2014. If the city of Olar wants to get the word out about penalties for exceeding 30 mph on a 500 yard stretch of Highway 321, they have done a fine job of it. Perhaps with the money the municipal tickets raise to support this little town, they can buy some magnetic police decals for the black-on black-in black charger.
