Scranton, South Carolina Speed Traps
Whole Town (Near U.S. Hwy. 378 Bypass)
I have been driving this road for 2 years and have been fortunate, until recently, not to be stopped for anything. I see a dozen or so sheriff’s, police, and highway patrol, on my way to work from Florence every morning. I got nailed March 1st right before the U.S. Hwy. 378 overpass for following too closely. The cop did not take my insurance information, and he did not leave the price for the fine on ticket. I have no choice but to go to court now in Lake City and see what comes of it. Be warned, these cops are dirty, and they do not play nice. The left lane slow cars do not pass people, they ride side by side for miles at a time. This cop tailed me all the way from the Shell station. Be careful.
US Highway 52 near US Highway 378
Small town on US HWY 52 between Lake City and Florence. The town’s main source of revenue is obviously its infamous speed trap. Though 52 is a four lane highway, the town has imposed a 35 MPH speed limit through it–even though it is sparsely populated. The cops are selective about who is ticketed. Be cautious when driving through Scranton as the cops relocate often.
