Yemassee, South Carolina Speed Traps
Between Old Sheldon Church Road and I-95
Coming in from Beaufort, SC on Old Sheldon Church Road, the speed limit goes from 55 quickly down to 35 to 25 in town and back to 35. My speed limit coming off of Old Sheldon Church road was 41. A cop was driving towards me with a car in front of his car. He flipped his lights on and said that I was doing 47 in a 25. Has anyone gone to court and tried to fight a speeding ticket through this town and won? I think it’s a waste of time but 10 miles over the limit is 6 points on a driving record. I haven’t had a speeding ticket in years…last time I’ll drive through this one horse town – I’ll drive around it next time….
Hwy 3 (Old Sheldon Church Rd.)
Coming in from Beaufort side entering Yemassee is a classic trap. After right turn from Sheldon Rd. speed limit is still 55 for about 1/8 of a mile. Quickly drops to 35 then immediately to 25 before you get to housing development on right. Always a town cop with radar pointing back toward 35mph sign. Speed must be 25 at sign or they’ll get you. Yemassee cops have gotten everyone in my family at least once, and many people I know have contributed to their cause.
Under I-95 to Old Sheldon Church RD.
On a motorcycle, I entered the city from the east and I saw the speed limit sign for 15mph. Glanced up and saw the cop. Slammed on brakes and stopped about 30ft from the speed limit sign. Officer had already pulled out and turned on his lights before I had broken the law! I pulled out my phone and videoed him passing me (stopped) turn around and pull in back of me. I got him asking me what I was doing with my phone. I asked him what the problem was and he told me I was 45 in a 15. I said you mean that sign I have not passed. He tried to take my phone and did not back off until I told Him I was a lawyer and this was evidence for the case I was filing tomorrow. Major speed trap and undereducated rent a cops.
Hwy 68 approaching school zone
I’m a lifelong SC resident and I am ashamed of Yemassee, S.C. I travel to Beaufort several times a year and I never fail to go the whole year without violating their speed trap at some time no matter how careful I am. The latest stunt was the “officer” sitting on the left side of 68 in the school zone at 2:15 PM. I was doing 35 mph, the school zone lights were not flashing as I passed them. I could see the officer and was completely stunned when he pulled out lights flashing. I told him the school zone lights were not flashing. I got a speeding ticket, but he was nice enough not to charge me for speeding in a school zone.
highway 68.
I have been to traffic court here and there is at least 75 people fit into one little rinky dink court room. They hold court twice a week. Not only that they have stops in the town checking your drivers license and registration and insurance. I think it should be outlawed for local cops to give tickets on interstates only State police should hand out tickets on interstates. I-95 runs right through Yemassee so the local town cops make big bucks handing out tickets.
