Lemmon, South Dakota Speed Traps
US Hwy 12 – In Lemmon SD across from the SD DOT Shop
As you come into Lemmon SD on Hwy 12 from the east, the local police officers and local SD HP like to sit on the south side of the Hwy 12 in the parking lot of a closed mechanic shop across from the SD DOT Shop on the north side of the highway. From the east the speed limit will go from 65 to 45, and then to 35 very quickly coming into town and they love to nail people as they have to drop from 65 to 45. It is hard to see them sitting there until it is too late, so be aware of the area. I would avoid Lemmon if possible and travel either south or north if heading east/west as there are 3 Police Officers, 1 HP, and 1 Deputy Sheriff all stationed there for about a town of 1400 people.
Hwy 73 – 12 miles South of Lemmon at Flat Creek/Shadehill SD
Local SD Highway Patrolman and Perkins County Sheriff will sit either in the parking lot of the Summerville store, north side of Flat Creek bridge on Hwy 73, or south of the parking lot and wait for people to come through the 50 mph speed zone that starts right at the hill top to unsuspecting motorists. They will usually face south, but doesn’t matter, as the cars can radar from both the front and back of the car. They especially like to sit there in the summer on a Friday or Sunday as people come in to enjoy a weekend at Shadehill Recreation area.
Heading west Hwy 12 cop sits south side road
Cop sits facing east, come out of town at 35, when you are past the sale barn and well past the highway junction you are looking at the cop not the sign, they changed it to 45 for almost a mile heading out of town, $120.00 and they are nasty besides. go 120 miles to get around this town!
