Downtown
I was issued a speeding ticket yesterday, and two of my family members have also been cited in the past in this same general area. Coming up I-64 through rural areas, it is easy to go above the speed limit, and the town of Walterboro comes up without much of a reduction in the limit. Before you know it, you are downtown by city hall and it goes down to 25 mph. It’s difficult to reduce your speed in the amount of time you have, especially if you’ve been going well above the limit outside the town. The city lawmakers, instead of working with the county to gradually reduce the limits outside of town, simply have officers wait for motorists to arrive and then pull them over. It may be because I have out-of-state plates, but it does seem the deck is stacked against motorists not used to the area.
