Highway 100
Drivers going to South Padre Island MUST pass through Port Isabel. The 5 lane highway has an unrealistic 30mph speed limit for the entire length of town (approximately 5 miles). Be careful going through here!

It's less than 2 miles and it's all business district. Get a grip!
We are a resort area and within that 2 mile business district there are many pedestrians. Trust me, the Island will not sink before you get there!
Coming into Port Isabel, the speed limit signs are 65 mph coming from South Padre. I found it interesting that the speed limit signs dropped to 45 mph outside the city, then to 30 mph, but the speed limit on my GPS unit stayed at 65 mph althought the signs dropped twice. The GPS finally dropped just outside the city. I have never had a problem with my GPS speeds. They normally change within a second of passing a speed limit sign, but not in Port Isabel. This happed to be around spring break and I noticed 3 police vechicles pulling over speeders in heavy trafic. I wonder if they moved thier signs to reduce speed further out during heavy traffic times?
Pedestrians should be on SIDEWALKS, not in the road. So keep the speed limits APPROPRIATE and that's it.
