I-80 Where Speed Drops From 75mph to 65mph
Either direction on I-80 around Elko. The interstate speed drops from 75mph to 65mph and the change is abrupt. I just got a “non-moving” $72 ticket at this location. The Highway Patrolman came at me from the opposite direction with light flashing and crossed the divider then followed me for about 1/4 mile with lights on. I was doing 78mph and acknowledged that I hadn’t seen the 65mph change. He said that the ticket was a “non-moving” violation and would not affect my insurance. My question is, is Elko concerned with speeders or with making money. I believe that if they were “truly” concerned with the prospects of speeders hurting one of their citizens…they would have several signs warning of the changing speeds and maybe even a flashing light to warn of the speed change. Let’s see….20 or more $72 “non-moving violation” tickets a day could add quite a bit to the city “coffers” each month.
