I-90 Westbound in Cayuga County
State Trooper has his car parked perpendicular to the I-90 westbound roadway in a town called Brutus in Cayuga County and has his laser gun pointed at cars coming in his direction. He is right in front of the overpass. I note that I-90 does not have many overpasses. You can’t see him until about 400 feet of where he is.

I was targeted as an out of state driver. I was surprised when the trooper told me I was doing 86 mph. That would have been very unusual for me and I would have challenged it if not front he four and a half hour drive from my home to Brutus, NY. Only later did I learn that New York State has an internal "points" program. One you acquire 6 points, you have to pay an additional $300 state assessment over and above the cost of your violation. Guess what triggers a 6 point violation? Being 21-30 miles over the speed limit. Interesting that at 86 mph, I was exactly 21 miles over the speed limit. Ended up costing me a $286 ticket plus a $300 "assessment." Ouch. #unscrupulous
