In Naturita Colorado, on the way to Moab from Telluride.
A young cop stopped us after going through Naturita and claimed I was speeding at 31 miles per hour in a school zone. The town is about six blocks long, but I did not see any school zone sign, nor any blinking lights, and it was after school hours. He did not show us a radar gun or any proof of how fast he claimed I was going. I was driving a lumbering motor home. The ticket was for $270 plus an unexplained “surcharge” of $63. It is one of the most isolated and barely visited parts of the state. The cop said, “I always get them out here.”
