Interstate 270 near Father Hurley Boulevard
Maryland State Police freqently sit on the left-hand median of the southbound lanes, shooting at southbound traffic sweeping down the hill before the highway turns to the left and ascends approaching Father Hurley Boulevard (Route 27). Because of the left hand turn and the "valley," many people do not not see the police parked halfway up the hill until they are almost upon them. The speed limit has just changed from 65 mph to 55 at this point, but most drivers are travelling at least 70-75. At this point the highway has already widened from 2 lanes to 3. The officers WILL step into the highway, but they’re parked in the median and target the left-most lanes. Therefore I would consider it almost more important to trafficate to the far right lane than to slow down (although it would be wise to do that as well, before coming into view of MSP).
