Interstate 35 near FM 471 Exit 127

Natalia, Texas CITY cops CONSTANTLY work the portion of Interstate 35 that has been deliberately included in their city limits for no other purpose than to enrich their city coffers. City cops work the one mile stretch so hard they have worn out the vegetation in the center median where they turn around. The city manager will attempt to obficate the blatant “milking”” of the interstate by “”blathering”” how the officers are “”merely”” there for the “”safety”” of the traveling public and “”drug”” interdiction. The “”milking”” of the interstate is reminiscent of the “”infamous”” city of Selma for which legislation had to be passed to reduce the percentage of revenue that could be derived from the inter-STATE roads!”

I agree. Natalia is a real dump and it is not uncommon to see 2-3 Natalia city cops hiding in the dark on IH 35. These guys are not about promotong highway safety (sitting in the dark in an unlit car in the grass median between the northbound and southbound lanes is unsafe - no, it is a very stupid thing to do.) It is about generating revenue - not promoting safe travel. If memory serves me right, the bank (in downtown Natalia) was robbed - and from what I understand, the Natalia city police officers were busy writing tickets on IH 35 (where the real crime is). I have never received a ticket from those guys, but have dealt with the department in the past...and lets be frank here...the caliber of officers lacks much to be desired. On the other hand, the state cops (who have stopped me before) are a class act - professional - and ARE about promoting highway safety in the area. Mike
