Even though the Supreme Court has ruled drug checkpoints illegal, the Phelps County Sheriffs still run them, albeit in a different manner. They post signs right before an exit stating that the traffic ahead is stopped for a narcotics checkpoint with K-9s in use. If you get off right after these signs, there is a good chance you’ll get stopped and searched, especially if you are from out of state.
