Interstate 45 near Mile Marker 17-13
Texas Highway Patrol and Galveston County Sherrif’s Department patrol this area just outside of LaMarque, TX in Justice of the Peace Sonny James’ jurisdiction on a near daily basis. More speed traps are encountered in this 3 mile stretch of highway than on the rest of the 56 miles each way I drive between Houston and Galveston on a daily basis.

Last week, around 10:20 AM, I was in the middle lane travelling south to Galveston when a semi in the right lane began to pullover in front of me, I was forced in to the left lane. I sped up to pass the truck. Before I knew it, a task enforcement vehicle pulled me over. The officer asked me how fast I was going. I said to him, the semi nearly hit me and I changed lanes and to get around the dangerous, crazy driver. The officer said that I was going 89 mph!.
There is no way that I was going that fast. He wrote me a ticket. That is the last time that I will drive to Galveston. I will fly to Corpus or Florida for a beach in the future. These traps are hurting Galveston's economy.
